It is with great sadness that we announce the deaths of two longstanding former members of the teaching staff at Alsager School, Mike Elkin and Keith Plant who worked at Alsager School for 35 and 34 years respectively.
Mr Elkin taught Geography and Maths but will be remembered most of all as one of the original Heads of Year, at the time when the school went ‘Comprehensive’ in 1971. Mike was a much loved and respected member of staff, who made such an impact on the school that a building was named after him, when he retired. During his retirement, he became a Governor of the school for a good many years and we benefited greatly from his wise counsel. He will be greatly missed in our community.
Mr Plant made a huge contribution to our school, starting in September 1976 as a teacher of English and Drama. He then became Deputy Head, before retiring in July 2010. Keith was an enormously talented teacher with a real passion and enthusiasm for his subject. He inspired countless numbers of students over the years to go on and study English, in one form or another. He will also be remembered for the many years he spent as Head of a very successful Sixth Form.
Keith’s talents were also put to excellent use in the sphere of community arts, having directed and written plays for the Alsager Community Theatre.
Both gentlemen will be greatly missed, and our best wishes and deepest sympathy goes out to their families and friends at this very sad time.
