Sporting Round Up (W/B 20th November)

Cornovii Cup – Year 7 Football HOME v Brine Leas

Two convincing victories for both Year 7 teams against Brine Leas A and B squad, which resulted in 20 points for the Cornovii Cup. 5 – 0 to the Alsager A team and 8 – 0 to the Alsager B team. There were a few stand out performances from Louis Cartlidge, Nathanial Griffiths who both scored hat tricks. Well done Alsager.

Year 10 & 11s Girls Rugby AWAY v Sandbach Girls School

Thursday saw the Year 10 and 11s Alsager girls take on Sandbach girls’ school in a rugby tournament. In both schools, there were girls who had not played Rugby before and some more experienced girls; this tournament was the beginning of more to come and an opportunity to provide more experience to all the girls. The tournament was a great atmosphere and a pleasure to watch as both sides showed great sportsmanship and camaraderie. The tournament started off with tag to get pupils used to the feel of the game. Both teams were excellent and eager to score. After 3 rounds of 10 minutes, the final score was 25 – 10 to Alsager. After tag, there was a small full contact competition with the more experienced players, in a small area, the girls got stuck in and the final score was 15 – 10 to Alsager. Overall, it was a fantastic experience for both schools and we are looking to play more Girls Rugby fixtures in the next coming months.

U13 Girls Football AWAY Tournament at PowerLeague On Thursday, the U13 girls team competed in the Utilita Girls Cup at PowerLeague in Stoke. The day consisted of a tournament style competition with the top 2 teams of each league going to the quarter finals. The girls had a great couple of games, only losing one of the games resulting in coming second in their league. The team then moved on to the quarter finals where we met Excel – it was a fantastic match with both teams with great possession resulting in 0 – 0 and going to penalties. Summer, Maisie and Grace took the mantle and scored 3 out of 3 penalties, unfortunately the other team did too which resulted in sudden death. We then scored another 2 with the other team missing, meaning we moved on to the semi-finals. The semi finals against Trentham resulted in 1 – 1, again penalties and the girls scored 3 – 0 in penalties. The U13s made it to the finals, it was a hard fought game against Blythe Bridge and unfortunately, the girls lost 3 – 1. It was a fantastic day, and the girls worked really well as a team but should be extremely proud of how much they achieved in the day!
