We saw another fantastic SPIRIT WEEK in 2022, made even more exciting after the two years hiatus due to COVID. Students had unique and exciting opportunities to demonstrate the SPIRIT values through many different activities designed to develop new skills and undertake challenges that they would not normally have the opportunity to do in the typical school day.
During SPIRIT WEEK there were an array of activities available, either within school or as external trips, ranging from a trip to the museum of Liverpool and Albert Docks, to Archery with the Alsager Scout Group, to our very own rock school, Cake Pops and Fudge kitchen and learning to juggle and spin plates with Circus Sensible. Students created a photography exhibition based on the landscape and wildlife of Alsager, while some worked with local makeup artist, Jody, on a Make Up and Special Effects Masterclass, or created bespoke pottery in a ceramics workshop. Students also had the opportunity to design their own graffiti masterpiece and perform in the Greatest Showman. Externally, students visited the Imperial War Museum in Manchester, explored local nature trails, visited the Lego Innovation Studio, navigated the Peak District, and visited the Liverpool Museum where they enjoyed karaoke.
SPIRIT Enrichment Leader, Miss Thornton, said “SPIRIT Week 2022 has been a huge success and it is fantastic to see the students enjoying themselves after the stress of the last two years. It has been great seeing everyone getting involved whole heartedly and participating in activities they wouldn’t usually get the chance to. The feedback from students, staff and parents has been outstanding and the visiting professionals had nothing but praise for our students. I truly enjoyed going around and chatting to students and staff, and hearing of all the amazing things they had been doing!”
Students in year 7 loved their first SPIRIT week, they said “I have had so much fun! My favourite part was the walk, it was just beautiful”; several year 7 also commented on how relaxing bracelet making was and how ‘capture the flag’ was great fun. A year 9 commented “The Liverpool Museum was fun, especially the top floor where they had karaoke, that was sick!”.
Roll on SPIRIT Week 2023!
