Proposed strike action

Home learning

Dear Parents/Carers,

Whilst I remain in hope that the proposed strike action for teacher members of the NEU may be averted, it would be remiss not to put in place planning to ensure you are aware of how we will organise forthcoming strike action days.

As a reminder, the strike is happening because of a national dispute between the unions and the government with regards to a fair pay settlement and recouping lost earnings over the last decade. It is not teachers striking against the school.

I am getting in touch to give you as much notice as possible that at present, we foresee that learning will be disrupted on Tuesday 28th February 2023 (and if there is still no resolution, on 15th/16th March 2023).

As with the previous arrangement, we have considered several options, looked at all elements of school safety and logistics and worked on how best to ensure as much curriculum continuity and progression as we can.  I am sorry about the potential disruption to you and to your child’s education. I understand that this situation may be frustrating and ask that all members of our school community continue to treat each other with respect. Alsager School remains committed to providing a safe and secure environment for our pupils and delivering high-quality teaching.

There are, and will remain, some variables that are still unknown in our planning but having worked with Alsager School’s Local Governing Board and the Cornovii Trust we have decided on the following arrangements for Tuesday 28th February 2023:

All teaching staff who are not taking industrial strike action will be in school.  All non-teaching staff and LSAs will be in school.

  1. Year 11, Year 12 and Year 13 will attend school as normal.  Buses will still be running and normal school functions will be in operation for these students.
  2. Year 7, Year 8, Year 9 and Year 10 will stay at home and remote online learning will be provided for students.  This will directed online learning.  Directed online learning will be a combination of links to established websites, links to software packages to which we already subscribe (e.g., Bedrock, Seneca, GCSE Pod), links to curriculum activities which may be on the school website.  Instructions will be emailed to students and posted on our website.  If your child is unable to access work, please contact your child’s Head of College.
  3. Pupils who were invited into school for the last Strike Day will also be expected to attend.
  4. If your child is entitled to a free school meal, they will be able to collect this on the Monday at 3:10 from Best Bite.  It will be a packed lunch.

For those students in school there may still be disruption to their normal lessons (if a teacher is not in school) and so we advise all students to bring in any appropriate revision work should the need arise to revert to that work within lesson time.

All students will be registered through the day in lessons as would normally be the case.

Thank you in advance for your support and understanding.
