News from Mrs O'Neill

It has been lovely seeing all of our Y7- Y9 involved in the mini sports week.  They have been competing for the final stages of the College cup so as you can imagine, things are tensing up amongst our Heads of College.  For Mrs Potts, this may well be her swan song as she steps down as Head of College for Lovell in a few weeks’ time.  She will still be working in school in a different capacity.  We have appointed Mrs Richardson as Head of Lovell College; she comes with a wealth of pastoral experience, and we are really looking forward to her starting in September.

We had our first Y11 Prom in 3 years last Thursday at Crewe Hall.  It was a very grand venue for what was a fantastic evening.  There were lots of amazing outfits and lots of dancing.  Thank you to the prom committee led by Miss Appleyard for the organisation and to all the staff who stayed up way past their bedtime!

We have sent out a reminder of our finishing time next Thursday.  A reminder that we expect all pupils to be compliant with our uniform standards until then.  Anyone considering an additional piercing or a more extreme haircut for the summer holidays should wait until school has finished.

A belated big congratulations to all athletes who took part in the South Cheshire Athletics Championships.  It was a long day for all participants and although we missed the bus on our return, it was worth it as we were overall winners.

Thank you to all parents who have sent in their thanks for SPIRIT week, particularly for the staff accompanying the trip to Spain.  We did have to make some very last-minute changes to the Y7 schedule as a staffing issue with the bus company affected transport on the Friday for the walk in the peaks.  Luckily Butterton Farm was able to accommodate us at very short notice.

In order to improve communication between our parents and parent governors, you may remember that we set up an area on the website where parents could share information or minor queries with our parent governors.  These are then discussed either at governor meetings or with me directly.  This does not form part of our complaints policy and is not monitored on a daily basis.  The Trust complaints procedure can be found on our website.

Last week was a busy week.  We had a great summer concert; Adele songs were very popular and unusual instruments included the harmonica.  For those of you imagining the plastic version found in party bags, it most certainly was not like that.  It was truly amazing.

Those of you who live relatively close to the school may have heard the huge cheers on Wednesday morning when the Harry Potter draw was being made.  Prizes included Domino’s pizza, Costa and Lakeside Fish bar vouchers, ski lessons.  Thank you to our local businesses for their donations.

We have added a new optional item to the PE kit range. This long-sleeved top is less expensive than other similar items. All stockists have been informed.

We only have a few days left of what has been a packed year.  I would like to thank you all for your continued support and wish you all a happy summer.  Let’s hope that the weather improves.

“No matter what happens in life, be good to people. Being good to people is a wonderful legacy to leave behind.” (Taylor Swift)
