Our A-level Computer Science students recently went on a tour of one of the biggest Amazon Fulfilment & Logistics Centres near Manchester.
Whilst there they got to look around all the key stages of how parcels arrive in to being sent out. A key part of the trip was learning about the 2500 robots used to power the centre 24/7 and the artificial intelligence used to sort and retrieve parcels.
As well as this they spoke to staff about some of the engineering and technical roles available that ensure all the robotics are working to maximum efficiency. Year 13 student, Shay Norman, said: “It was a really insightful look into the inner workings of such a big company, and it helped to explain how Amazon manage their ‘next day delivery’ for so many thousands of customers”.
