This has been a very tough week for us at school and I’d like to thank you all for your support and concern.
Many of you have got in touch this week to share your condolences for Richie. Our pupils have been very respectful this week; some have made use of the reflection area in the LRC and have written some lovely words and prayers. Some have found this week very tough, and we will continue to offer support for all students over the coming weeks and months. A ‘Go Fund Me’ page has been set up by a friend of Mr Parry and I know that some of you have made contributions to this. We will also find a way to remember Richie in school.
Our Y11 had their leaving celebrations on Thursday. If they have put the same amount of effort into revision as they have on decorating their shirts, then results in summer will be phenomenal. They have taken shirt signing to the next level – glitter, stencils, frills; a far cry from a felt tip pen. I am expecting prom to be spectacular.
A while ago I mentioned a new award that we would be presenting: The Allan Maclean Award. This is to be given to a pupil for showing kindness and support. We have asked pupils to make nominations and then we will select a worthy winner. If you know of a pupil who has shown an act of kindness and you would like to nominate them, please email Mrs Brown with the name and reason by the end of the day on Monday 10th June. Our ‘pupil voice’ has been an integral part of our school development this year and we want to continue to strengthen it and encourage pupils to really feel part of a community. To this end, we are introducing the role of ‘Head Student’ to our main school. The successful candidates will act as role models for the school, lead the prefect teams, work with our governing body and our parent community in addition to other responsibilities. We will be launching the process with Y10 next week, but this may be something you want to talk to your child about and encourage them to apply.
We are now only two and a half weeks away from SPIRIT week. There are lots of exciting activities on offer. Y7 will have a walk in the Peak District of approximately 3-4 miles. It is on mostly flat terrain with some gently undulating hills. The staff leading the trip have led the walks for many years.
Preparations are well under way for sports day. We will have four days of ‘sports mornings’ for each year group, culminating in an afternoon of track events on Friday 12thJuly. We will need to keep everything crossed for good weather.
