This month eighteen year 12 students entered the UKMT Senior Mathematical Challenge. The Senior Mathematical Challenge is a 90-minute competition aimed at sixth form students across the UK.It encourages mathematical reasoning, precision of thought, and fluency in using basic mathematical techniques to solve interesting problems. The problems on the Senior Mathematical Challenge are designed to make students think. The level of problem solving required to tackle these questions goes beyond what is expected in the A-Level Syllabus. This year our students have achieved excellent results, gaining 3 Gold Certificates, 5 Silver Certificates and 6 Bronze Certificates. As well as being awarded the gold certificates, Alex and Thai have also achieved an entry into the follow up Senior Kangaroo competition, which will take place at the end of the month. Jonathan has gained an entry into the British Mathematical Olympiad which is reserved for students achieving the top 1000 scores in the competition nationwide.
Well done to all those students who took part in the competition and good luck to those who are preparing for the follow up competitions later in the month.
