Last week, Year 9 Food Preparation and Nutrition made homemade shortcrust pastry for the first time. They were fortunate enough to have been able to pick the apples from the Bramley apple tree in school to make pies. Their teacher, Mrs Smith, said: “It was amazing for the students to know exactly where their ingredients had come from, that there were no food miles, and far more economical, as they were for free! The finished apple pies looked and tasted incredible, with a golden, melt in the mouth pastry and sweet apple chunks. Students were able to decorate their pies with pastry leaves to enhance the appearance of them. the pies were thoroughly enjoyed by both parents/carers and students – well done Year 9!”
