Dear Parents / Carers
As we come to the end of what seems like a very long and unprecedented week, can I firstly thank you all for your messages of support and appreciation that we have received over these last few days. It is unbelievable to think that this time a week ago, we were all in school with over 1200 students – how times have changed! I also know that some of you are dealing with poorly relatives and family members and on behalf of everyone here at school, I send best wishes and we are all thinking of you and your loved ones.
Can I please highlight the following key points to you, as we reflect on the week just gone and prepare for the future;
Work will continue to be set as it was this week, namely on a daily basis.
Please remember to upload / send us any photos or comments about your child / children at work through our ‘Alsager Still at Work’ platform (go to the school’s homepage and use the tab at the top right hand corner).
Can I remind you that if your child is entitled to free school meals, we are still offering these in school to be collected (between 12 noon and 12.45 in the canteen), until the national voucher scheme is up and running. We will be in contact with eligible families as soon as that scheme is active.
I regret to inform you, but it will come as no surprise, that we have cancelled this year’s SPIRIT week (due to be 1st – 3rd July) and all trips due for that week have been cancelled too.
Next week we hope to receive detailed guidance from the government about how this year’s GCSE, BTEC and A level grades will be awarded. As soon as we have this information I will share it with parents and students in years 11 and 13.
In the meantime, for current year 11 students, please be reassured that we have a place in our 6th Form for all year 11 who want to come and who meet the entry requirements for their chosen course. Please remember we are a comprehensive 6th form and have a pathway for everyone. Please contact Mrs Rowlands (p.rowlands@alsagerschool.org) or sixthform@alsagerschool.org if you have any questions about 6th form places.
For current year 12 students, we will obviously not be able to hold our regular internal year 12 – 13 progression exams and the vast majority of year 12 students will progress from year 12 to 13. In cases where there are concerns about a student’s progress, Mr Evans or Mrs Pole will be in touch to discuss the best way forward. The 6th form team will also be in regular contact with year 12 about UCAS applications and key information relating to UCAS.
Please remember there is always someone here at school for you to contact should you need some help or advice or you can contact your child’s Head of College via e mail. Even though we might not be physically available at the moment, we are still here to support you as best we can.
This national crisis is increasing at a rapid pace and I fear we have some much harder times ahead of us but If we continue to follow government advice and support each other as best we can, we will get through this. Please take care of yourselves and your families.
Best wishes
Richard Middlebrook
